I created Image of a Black Woman as a visual extension of my poetry collection, Pocketful of Poetry: Formally a Short Book of Poems, which is available on Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble. This slideshow poem is deeply personal to me—it reflects not only my work, but my lived experience, my voice, and the way I have come to understand the beauty, complexity, and strength of Black womanhood.
Each frame holds a piece of me. I see in it a radiance that persists, a resilience shaped through both struggle and growth, and a depth that stretches beyond what words alone can fully express. When I wrote my collection, my intention was to create something cohesive—something honest—that could tell a story while giving readers a real glimpse into my heart and mind. This visual piece continues that same intention, bringing my words to life through imagery and rhythm.
This is more than an interpretation of my poetry—it is a reflection of who I am. Through Image of a Black Woman, I honor the legacy I carry and the stories that live within me. To be a Black woman is to embody history, art, love, and truth all at once. This work is my way of holding that truth, embracing it, and sharing it with others in a way that feels both vulnerable and powerful.
